So, you are in a relationship... What now?

Hey friend! Congratulations on your new bf/gf! Finally, the long wait is over. Is he/she worth it? Good for you both. I'm happy for you! Now that was all done with, what do you do now?

Being in a relationship is great. Although most of "bitter" persons (those that had it rough) would straight out spoil it by saying, "Sa umpisa lang yan!" coming from Bamboo's song "Masaya." What you should do with those people is to distance your self from them. Avoid negativity by avoiding negative persons. As I have learned from various inspirational talks by various experts, in order to be happy, we must avoid the things, people or happenings that make us sad. And by the way, don't be a victim and answer "Inggit ka lang!" That will not do any good for you or to the other person. Just say, "I'll prove you wrong" and then walk away.

Now, are you serious about this relationship? If you are, then tell it to your family especially to your parents first. Yes, shouting it to the whole world is sweet but telling it to your parents have a massive impact to your partner. He/She will definitely receive the message that you are dead serious about your relationship. If he/she says no, that's a red flag for you my friend. The boat is lighter on the other side and that is not a good sign if you're looking for your forever. And yeah, don't do this introduction in a surprise manner because most probably, you will be the who will end up surprised. It will either go incredibly good or disastrously bad. Always expect the unexpected.

This next advise is crucial. REMEMBER THE DATES! If you have a bad memory, write down the dates in a piece of paper, mark the calendar, log it in your phone's reminders, send an email to yourself just to be sure, in case you throw out old calendars, notes or maybe lose your phones or any other gadgets and forgot your email password, tell it to a friend with a good memory and tell him to remind you just in case. (It's hard to be in a relationship if you have poor memory) Many break up just because of forgotten weeksaries, monthsaries, anniversaries, birthdays, first meeting, first kiss, first date, first movie, first travel, etc. (it's tough for men. Ladies don't have any problem with these).

The last advise I'd give is to enjoy the moment. Make as much memory as you can together. The best gift you could ever give to your partner is your time. Yeah, fancy gifts, expensive dinners, and flashy gestures may work the magic but it will all mean nothing if you are not around him/her. Here's a fact. You became in a relationship because you've invested effort and most especially TIME. That is the pure reason why you ended up being in a relationship in the first place. It is your presence this whole time.

Make it work. Make it last as much as you can. Being in a relationship is a cycle. Just like LIFE, it has its ups and downs. There will come a time that it may seem so rough that you can no longer handle it but that should not be the reason to give up. You should find a way to get through. Again, make it work. If you give up and break up, you lose. Nobody wins in quitting. You will end up finding another person to be with and start the process all over again. All the time and effort you put go to waste. And when faced with another rough time with the other person, what would you do? Give up again? Save yourself the trouble my friend.

I hope this helps.
